Remember us? We're back again

Like a lot of folks who have been doing this blogging stuff for quite a while, we have taken a vacation from writing, but not from reading, blog posts. Now it's time to come back and show you something amazing.

After ten months, our Suzy is a different woman!

This is my lady, 127 pounds lighter than she used to be! Ladies, she is wearing size 16 pants --- down from a 4X! And some of those size 16s are getting a little loose in the butt and legs. She is shopping and shopping, in all the regular size departments at Dillard's, Kohl's, WalMart.

Oh, by the way, this was Suzy BEFORE the surgery.

Besides the new figure, she has a new hair style too! Why? Well, there are a number of reasons. She'd been wearing the same style most of the time since High School, several years back. She felt that style no longer fit the slender Suzy. And because, unfortunately, she is one of those folks who began to lose hair following her bariatric surgery! (By all accounts, it will come back eventually). So Suzy visited a lady up the street, a retired stylist who continues her work with some of the park's residents. And there it is, she has a pixie style!

What else? Well, this year we've really been on the cutting edge! In addition to the bariatric surgery in January, Suzy had a knee replacement in September. Feeling left out, I had foot surgery to repair one from 1999 that went bad. Three Arizona surgeons are driving new cars ... on OUR dime!

We stayed home yesterday for our Thanksgiving celebration, following our own traditions. Breakfast was apple burritos, from a recipe I found in a Sunset Magazine in 1978 or '79. That's been Thanksgiving breakfast nearly every year since, and it makes enough that we'll have it again for New Years, as well as other days in between. Turkey for dinner, a new recipe for a cornbread chili dressing with a decidedly southwest bent, cranberries of course and pumpkin bars for dessert. By the way, we both lost a pound yesterday, even after that sugary dessert! Actually, the dessert was WAY too sugary; neither of us could finish our serving.

Sunday will be fun. We are heading to Tucson for a matinee performance of Dralion, the current Cirque du Soleil masterpiece. We've seen Cirque du Soleil in a live performance only once before, probably 45 years ago, and we've wanted to do it again ever since. Now is our chance.

So today it is back to the casita for me to spend several hours on Board of Directors work. As Secretary, I am heavily involved from November into January. By February 7, I hope to pass the job on to another Director. Suzy is going back up to Flexercise this morning. That program is helping her limber up and rebuild strength, flexibility and stamina after so many years of virtual inactivity.

So that's where we are right now in ... Our Life on Wheels.

  2. Wow! Suzy's new look is fabulous! What a great idea to get a new hairdo to go with the new bod. I recently got down to size 16 and it is indeed quite a feeling for a gal to be able to shop in the regular misses dept again and no longer need plus-sized clothes.

Glad you both made it through your surgeries o.k. and can now enjoy warm and sunny strolls in the desert!

    1. Really wasn't that long ago, as we see they didn't start up in the US until 1987. Everything in our working lives seems so VERY long ago!
