SPRING IS FLUNG!

Here at the SKP Saguaro Park in Benson, Arizona, we kicked off Spring Fling today! Spring is officially flung here. Spring Fling is a three day festival of fun, and Suzy and I are right in the middle of it, maybe just a bit off center.

We started with breakfast this morning: French toast, pastry, sausage patties, egg-potato-cheese-bacon casserole, orange juice and a fruit cup. Coffee of course. All for $7.50 per person!

The next event was a Spring parade, with everyone invited to decorate their cars, golf carts, bicycles, motorcycles. horses and themselves, in a Spring motif. Anything to do with Spring. We jumped right in with Spring Garden. Our golf cart was loaded with flowers, fertilizer, garden tools, and about six frogs of various descriptions. Here's us decorating our golf cart, which we had earlier nicknamed "Froggie." Froggie lived up to his name today, for sure!

Because we were in the parade, we didn't get to watch it go by, but we got a lot of pictures up in the staging area. These are our friends, our community, and our extended "family" having fun. Kids, this is what your parents do in their golden years!

The "Poo Patrol" followed directly after, and served the needs of, the mounted riders.

Of course, no parade is complete without a musical theme.

One of our Board members and his lady rode tandem.

Paulette was a belly dancer for Ladies Night Out, and kept the theme for the parade!

These ladies represent 63 years of cancer survivors!

And Annie Porter was the lady who put the Spring Fling together.

For us, one of the fun highlights of the parade was the instant when a hummingbird tested one of our silk flowers -- an orange and yellow rose -- as we drove along!

The day ended with a complimentary dessert party, specifically dedicated to say Thank You to the many folks here who donate their time and talent to make our park the success it is.  Since we are a Co-op, one main premise is that we all share in what goes on here. Some people care for the landscaping of the common areas, some line up and schedule events, come decorate the clubhouse, a few service the washers and dryers in the laundry room, several pump propane. Everything here is powered by volunteers. Everyone is expected to do something, to serve on a committee, to take an active part, Of course, some don't. That's the way it is in any organization. You learn to live with it.

Who was saying "Thank You?" Well, everyone, of course, but the cake and ice cream were served by members of the Board of Directors, including Yours Truly, and the Board of the Cactus Wrens, the fund-raising and fun-making organization we all belong to.

Maxine is President of the Board of Directors. "How-----dee!"

Annie Porter gets her flowers for being the moving party behind the whole affair.

There are so many more pictures of these events available in our web album, and we invite you to click on this link to see them: Spring Fling 2011.

And that's Thursday, March 10, a day in ... Our Life on Wheels.

  7. Another fun activity at your Benson co-op park. It almost seems like you don't have much time to relax in the midst of all the volunteering, partying, and activities. Good for you both for staying so active!
