A WARNING AND AN APOLOGY

Don't know how to tell you this other than just to tell you. I may have made a colossal blunder this morning.

Early morning is when we have our first cup of coffee and read our incoming emails, blogs, etc. During the email reading, we found a message from our Cousin Carol, a nice message. The next one I opened also allegedly was from Cousin Carol -- she had allegedly asked an outfit called HomeRun so send us a free movie ticket as an introduction to their products. Even though there are no movie theaters anywhere near Benson (there is one in Sierra Vista, 35 miles away), I clicked on the link, which gave us the opportunity to verify our email address, then ASKED ME TO ENTER MY PASSWORD!

As soon as I did that, my entire email address book showed up on the screen! They were asking me to send that same "free ticket" to everyone on my list, or to "uncheck" the names I didn't want to include. Right then it looked to me like I had been scammed.

Dammit, I know better than that! You never give your password to anyone who asks for it, unless it's an outfit you have contacted in the first place to join a program or something like that.

I know better I know better I know better!

So that's the warning -- don't let anyone in that you didn't ask for first!

Now the apology. I am afraid that some of you are on that mailing list. If you get hit with the same scam it's probably my fault. I cannot say I am sorry often enough. If you do get an email that says I have sent you something, treat it like I was trying to send you typhoid fever and run, do not walk, to the nearest exit!

That was a bit pothole we hit on ... Our Life on Wheels!

  1. Don't worry too much about this but thanks for the warning and the reminder. Sometimes these things sneak up on us - we've all been there at one time or another. You might want to consider changing all your passwords just in case your security has been compromised. Best wishes and have a wonderful day.

  2. Thanks for the heads-up. There are so many types of scams going on right now, and at least two bloggers on my list have been hit. So don't feel too bad, and thanks for warning us.

  5. Don't worry about it Jerry. It's just one of those things that we all deal with from time to time out here in Cyberworld. Nothing like a good old mistake or two to get the heart racing & stir up some good old dormant emotions. I remember when I first signed up for Facebook years ago I clicked on something that sent an invitation to everyone to come join Facebook. Nothing bad but I sure felt rotten about that & sent out a quick apology to everyone as well. You might want to think about quickly changing the password for whatever programs that password led too. Too bad there has to be those kinds of people out there always looking for ways to take advantage of everyone else. Thanks for the head's up. Now go have yourself an extra stiff shot of hot chocolate & put this out of your mind:))))))))))))))))
