RALLY ROUND THE FLAG, BOYS AND GIRLS

Before we talk about the rally, let me recognize three new blog followers, for our new total of 64 followers! There's Cindy, who writes a blog called Full-Timing is Like a Chinese Fire Drill (click on the link to see Cindy's Blog); Steve the Happy Camper is also a blogger (Happy Kansas Camper); and Gail has a blog called Gail and TC's Travels. Welcome, all of you!

Now for our rally. We are members of the Escapees Club Chapter 21, the Arizona Saguaros. We hold three rallies each year. This time we travelled about 75 miles from Benson to a little town called Amado to an RV Park that used to be a greyhound race track. The dogs are gone, but the RV park is still there.
It's a nice park with 80 full hookup sites, an indoor heated salt water pool, a hot tub, shuffleboard, exercise room, and it's own small cafe.

Suzy is the Chapter Treasurer, and her job includede taking reservations, assigning sites, matching friends next to friends, dealing with park management when they tried to change our site assignments, and finally, registering our members as they arrived at the park. Here she is signing up our friend Jan Leithner.

(The nice lady sitting beside Suzy is our friend and fellow blogger Sharon DelRosario -- Gypsy and the Mariner's RV Adventures).

RVers love to eat, and you can't have a rally without food. The RV park provided two morning breakfast buffets (for $5 each) for us, serving fruit, sausage, bacon, eggs how-you-want-them, and sweet rolls.

On Thursday, the Chapter held it's regular business meeting, starting with the salute to the flag. Suzy's role was to give the Treasurer's report, which she did with aplomb. And a microphone as well.
President Ron is not actually picking his nose.
Thursday afternoon was fun time, starting with a margarita party.
Pre-made Margaritas -- get your glass, your ice, and pour your own!
Everybody seemed to like the Margaritas!
After the margarita party, the park fixed us dinner, but after the margaritas, I didn't take any recognizable pictures. Following dinner, the band started playing, and we beat a hasty retreat to our motorhome to listen to the music at a bearable volume.

Friday morning was the "hitch-up breakfast" with everybody hanging around saying how much fun they had and planning the meet up soon. Since the majority of participants came directly from, and were returning to, our SKP Park in Benson, it was kind of anticlimactic, but that's OK.

This rally didn't have a lot of assigned time activities, but was designed around visiting the historic and natural sites in the area. Suzy and I did a couple of things we'll blog about later, including visiting Tumacacori National Historic Park.

Tumacacori is a mission founded in the misty past by Jesuit missionaries from Spain.

The other trip was a back road to the old mining ghost town of Ruby.

Ruby took a long time to get to, and when we got there -- it was closed. We'll tell you more about that as we go along ... Our Life on Wheels.

  2. Thanks for a more complete report of the Chapter 21 Rally, Jerry. It was fun helping Suzy with registration. Sorry you didn't get the message that Ruby was closed. We still want to explore that area of Arizona more, as it offers lots of interesting places.

  4. Looks like the Rally was a lot of fun - but a whole lot of work too, especially for Suzy. I sure would have liked to visit the Tumacacori National Historic Park, but we just ran out of time - maybe next year!!

  5. We went to a rally once up here in Canada years ago but it just wasn't our kind of thing so we've never gone to another one. It's good there are people like you & Suzy who like that sort of thing & work hard to make them possible. We know we are not the norm:))))
