VETERANS’ DAY DOUBLE CELEBRATION

We celebrated Veterans’ Day two ways this year.

The local celebration at our SKP Park was an “Honor Our Veterans” gathering and supper in the club house. We must have had about 50 veterans stand to be honored, by branch of service. There were a few from World War II, several from Korea, and many from Viet Nam. It was a wonderful celebration as we all stood and sang “America,” then were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by the oldest WWII veteran in the building, a Pearl Harbor survivor.

The other, significantly more personal, celebration was the birth of our first great grandchild, Darren Keaton Plain! Darren was born at 11:45 PST this morning,in Carson City, Nevada, to our granddaughter Renee and her husband Adam. Darren weighed in at 7 lb, 9 oz., was 19 inches long, and, according to the report, has good hair and good lungs.

Because of complications, Darren was delivered by Caesarean section. Our daughter Kathie was in attendance, along with Adam and his Mom. Reports are that Momma and baby are doing fine. No pictures have been received yet, but you;ll see them shortly after we do.

Yay, Darren! Yay, Renee and Adam!

  2. Well, congratulations Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma! It sounds like you've had a wonderful day. First, the great-grandson, and then celebrating and honouring your friends and veterans in the park. I guess the best thing I could wish for your new grandson is that he is never called on to go to war as so many of our family and friends have had to in the past. He sure sounds like a healthy baby - looking forward to lots of pics! All the best to the new Mom and Dad too!!

  5. Congratulations on becoming "Great" Grandparents ... the "greats" are so special and I have one just a year old and one that is 10 yrs. old so I may live to meet a "great, great". Wouldn't that be special?

  6. Congratulations! I'm sure Darren will be the source of joy and entertainment for you two, and his parents, aunts, uncles, etc. for many years to come. He's a special addition to your family, and I look forward to photos!

Thanks also for the report on tributes to veterans. This was a special Veterans Day for us too, spending it with Don's son (also a Vet) and his wife.
