On the Road Again -- Soon

Thank you to all of you for sending your good wishes and prayers after Suzy's recent atrial fibrillation episode. Things have settled down nicely and her heart has had no problems since. A new bugaboo rears its head, though, so we are going to cut short the all-summer trip we had planned.

That doesn't mean we won't be on the road, however. Tuesday morning, if all goes well, we'll be heading out Interstate 10 bound for Carson City Nevada. We had hoped to be there for grandson Sam's 18th birthday May 4. Time is too tight for us, considering the way we travel. But we will be there in time for Mother's Day.

On Mother's Day, May 12, daughters Kathie and Deb, along with granddaughter Renee, will be participating in a 5K run or walk in Reno, but we'll all be together for the afternoon. We'll stay in Carson City until just after grandson Sam's high school graduation June 1.

And somewhere in there this old man will have a birthday.

Oh by the way, we'll meet our newest great grandson Mason Kendall Plain while we are there. You can bet GeeGee (that's Suzy's name as a great grandmother) will get plenty of baby holding time!

Then we'll head north across upper California on the way to Casey's RV Resort in Westfir, Oregon.

Never heard of Westfir? Neither had we until Russ and Donna of Travels in Therapy told us about it. The park is right on the Willamette River about 25 miles from Eugene, where Russ and Donna live. We'll be meeting up with these intrepid members of Oregon's Admirers Club and hope to explore some of their state with them.

That's the point where we will depart from our planned trip up through Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Instead, we'll wind our gradual way back home to Benson.

Oh, the new bugaboo? Suzy had an echocardiogram Wednesday, and the cardiologist announced Friday that she has the worst possible situation related to atrial fibrillation: she also has pulmonary hypertension, which makes it very difficult for the heart to pump blood through the lungs to be oxygenated. So when the A-Fib kicks in (thank God it is paroxysmal A-Fib, not chronic) the oxygen reaching her brain is minimal -- that's what caused her to pass out two weeks ago.

Once we get back to Benson, we'll locate a pulmonologist who has special interest in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and get started working on that condition. We have learned that PH is quite rare and specialists are nearly as rare. There are some in Phoenix, so we'll get some more motorhome trips over there to take part in whatever we have to take part in.

We are certainly not bored in ... Our Life on Wheels

  1. Here's hoping you find a doctor who know how to successfully treat her.

  2. I sure am glad to hear that you're going to be able to get up to Carson City. Holding that new grandbaby will definitely make Suzy feel a whole lot better. Good luck on finding the pulmonologist. We are so impressed with Phoenix doctors. And our park is a PA park - I'm pretty sure it's $13.50 a night - but it is out in AJ.

You're lucky ducks for getting to spend some time with Donna and Russ!

  4. You are in for a great trip. You have a plan and I'm sure it will all work out as you do your research. Sorry you have had to modify your plans but that is part of life and yours is more flexible than most. Take care.

    Blessings

  5. We've got lots of sunshine headed our way this week. Our plan is to bottle some up so it'll be here for your visit. Travel safe and enjoy Nevada. That's a mighty handsome grandson, and great grandbabies too.

  6. Sounds like a wonderful trip you two are going to take. What fun to be with the family on so many blessed events.

You will love Donna and Russ. We only had the opportunity to be with them one afternoon but fell in love with them all the same. We are looking forward to reading about your adventures.

Suzy, we are praying that the specialist can get your medical problem under control and you can live a pain-free life.

  7. Suzy will love holding that adorable little one in her arms! Hope they get lots of cuddle time. Sorry to hear about the additional heart problem and hope she gets the right medical attention. Travel safe, you two, and enjoy every day to the fullest.

  8. We are excited that you're still planning to come to Oregon and visit. It will be so much fun to finally meet you both! There is always lots of sunshine in Oregon, unfortunately much of the time that sunshine is above the clouds and we can't get up high enough to see it every day...but we know it's there! The Westfir/Oakridge area is usually nice and sunny, since it's higher and doesn't catch the clouds so much like Eugene down here in the Willamette Valley.

You guys take care of yourselves, and enjoy your family. We really need to get to Reno and see our family there, too!
