2012 in 2011

The setting is

The occasion is the 121st Commencement at the University of Nevada, Reno. The star of the show:

Katherine Marie LeRoy Taylor! Our very own daughter! The third of our descendents to graduate from a four year university. The latest in a series of proud moments for our family. Yeah, and she's cute, too!

The ceremony began at 8:15 Saturday morning. Why so early? Because usually by noon the wind picks up, and everybody's mortarboard would have blown away. But the weather held beautifully for the entire event, with just enough chill in the air to keep everyone awake. (The very next day we had snow most of the day!)

For the class of 2011, UNR had 2012 graduates! And of those 2012 graduates, our Kathie was one of just eight "Senior Scholars" selected, due to her outstanding grade point average.

Oh heck, we bragged about that last time, didn't we. Well, we can brag all we want, 'cause this is our blog.

And because this is our blog, we'll show you a bunch of pictures of what went on in our corner of the world. And if you want to see more pictures, you'll find them at this Web Album.
The core four of our family: Suzy, Jerry, Kathie, Deb

The all-important decision -- placement of the lily on the cap.

Kathie with the man who made it all possible -- husband Shawn.

Deb, Kathie and Kat's friend Megan.

As Senior Scholar for the School of Journalism, Kathie was the standard bearer for the school during the Processional.

Just a face in the crowd?

Kat receives her diploma.

Kathie is congratulated by the University's new President, Marc Johnson.

Afterwards. Kat greets Shawn

Gets a kiss

And breaks into tears of success, relief, weariness, and joy.

Kat greets Natalie, her very best friend from high school days in Butte, MT.

And her grandson (our great grandson) Darren.
And then the day was over, we all drove down to Kathie and Shawn's home in Minden, NV, just south of Carson City, to relax and to celebrate.

Looking back on the day!

Kathie and her oh-so-proud Mama!
So, that's it for today. We'll be back with some stuff about great grandson Darren, next time in ... Our Lfe on Wheels!

  1. What a wonderful day, and you should be proud of Kathie! You have a great family. Did I read that right, Kathie is Darren's grandmother? She looks really young, way too young to be a grandma. I'm glad you were there to enjoy her success (and her husband's, too.) I loved the photo of the tears, it was so real. :)

  5. Another milestone in the history of the LeRoy Family, you guys sure can be rightly proud of her, we have been lucky that 3 out of 4 of our boys were college graduates, and my niece Tammy was an honors graduate from Southeast Mo State. I will have to wait now till one of the Grandkid's graduates to attend another one. Hope I'm still here. You can see where all the beuaty is in the family in the shot of Mom & Daughter. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.
