A Party in a Park

Our friends Emerson and Carol had the big celebration of their 50th anniversary at their home park, Picacho Peak RV Resort, near the town of Picacho, Arizona, one day after their true anniversary date. This was Saturday, and friends and family had arrived, some from Indiana, some from Colorado, one from Georgia, some from as close as Tucson (30 miles away) and us.

The party was a casual affair, in the rec room at the park: eight round tables for eating, a couple of food tables, a cake table,

and a display table with pictures and a guest register.

The food was casual: sandwiches from Subway, homemade potato, macaroni, pasta and pea salads, veggie trays, fruit trays  and so on. Carol and Emerson are casual people, and we are very comfortable with them.

We had a grand time meeting some of their family and friends, and eating and drinking, of course.

The park itself is a very nice RV Park, working to develop itself into a semi-residential community. Carol and Emerson are full-time residents, as are several other RVing couples. There is a nice club house with swimming pool, laundry, and other amenities -- including a dining room where Carol prepares meals three times a week "during the season." We have stayed in the RV part of the park a few times ourselves, but never before in the heat of summer. Our overall impression? This is a very fine park. The park models they are presenting for sale would be great "cabins" IF they were located somewhere else. Here along I-10 in the desert with nothing else nearby (except a State Park and a Shell Station / Dairy Queen complex; the nearest grocery store is 17 miles away) -- you should stay away in the summer.

Sunday morning at 7:30, as we were checking our emails, we noticed that the local temperature was 88 degrees, while our little town of Benson was at 72 degrees! The humidity was high in both places. When you combine the temperature and the humidity, this was stifling. To be honest, later in the day the temp was still high, but the humidity seemed lower, and the overall wasn't too uncomfortable.

But we enjoyed the area, Picacho Peak behind the park, and the backlit cactus.

And we will admit, Picacho Peak RV Resort does get its share of the Arizona sky!

And of course, the event and the friends that drew us here. Monday we'll be back on the road, heading for California and family visits.

Come with us as the follow along ... Our Life on Wheels.
